I hope I can enjoy a campfire again!

Well we have had quite a May. I got a phone call at 1 in the morning on May 12th - one I always feared - that our beloved store was on fire. Arriving at the scene was surreal - fire trucks from several towns, a ladder extended onto the roof and a cloud of billowing smoke. This season was our favorite since we took over the store from our parents. We were so pleased with the variety of inventory and the depth of available choices. One electrical mishap and it was gone, or so we thought.

After two weeks of hard labor and countless volunteers we have salvaged about 85% of our stock - some a little smokier than others but all will be fine with a washing. So although we are unable to offer this merchandise for sale on-line, we will be having a tremendous "fire sale" next week. Everything will be available at great prices!!

Now we have a good sized construction project on our hands but we are excited about some of the changes we will be making including opening a super cool enlarged 7-14 department on the second floor. Have a great Memorial Day and we will be in touch!

Bright Lights, Big City

Phew...April vacation is behind us and warm weather is here! I took my three kids to NYC for vacation and saw all the tourist sites. It was fun and exhausting. Walking through the city and its multitude of retail options - I was overwhelmed. I tortured my offspring with a few stops in children's clothing stores and found myself thinking "we are doing alright!" I hope that the bright, organized space of fritz & gigi offers a great alternative to the noisy, messy, not-always-helpful staff of some of those big stores.

We just received in our spring delivery of Flap Happy with cute sunhats, UV swim shirts and shorts for all sizes. These are so practical and cute (and save a bundle on sunscreen!) We still have a tremendous selection of dresses and casual wear in all sizes. Don't forget to visit us for birthday gifts too!

"March"ing Along

March is a funny month in New England. The days vary from 70 degrees and sunny to 25 and snowing. Dressing our kids and ourselves is a daily challenge. Layers - that's the answer (as long as you don't mind visiting the lost and found on occasion to find the discarded one's!) I am not sure I have ever seen the store look as good as it does right now. We are fully stocked with some of the cutest spring and summer clothes for ages 0-14. Karen has everything beautifully displayed and we are ready to layer up your little cutie. Our only error was in over buying dresses. We have lots and lots of dresses (leggings too.) So until the end of March we are offering 10% off a dress of your choice but only if you know about it. It's my way of saying "thanks for reading."

According to Wikipedia, a blog is (a contraction of the term weblog) is a website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.
Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries.

I must admit - being of a certain age - this concept is all new to me. Aren't diaries supposed to be private? What happened to the good old vinyl covered pink book with a gold lock and a key? Well I guess my childhood memories are just that and its a brave new world out there where we share all kinds of things. In my humble opinion, probably much more than we should!

Well this is going to be the diary of a small retail store (sounds riveting doesn't it?) Actually, our days can be quite entertaining - filled with adorable babies, busy toddlers and growing tweens. Being surrounded by beautiful clothing from around the world doesn't hurt either. And although I remain mystified as to why I am selling bathing suits in the middle of a New England February, I must admit that walking into the store at this time of year gives us hope of warmer weather to come.

Karen (that's my sister) and I are really pleased with the Spring 09 merchandise. It is flooding into the store each day and is as cute as can be. We also have quite a bit of Winter stuff left - all at 75% off now (EEEK!) If you are a good planner - you may want to stock up for next year's wardrobe.

We have several lines this season that are brand new to us. I will highlight a couple - Ragdolls & Rockets is a new knit line for 4-6X and 7-14. It is soft lightweight jersey tops, dresses and leggings in a variety of complimentary colors at great prices. Leggings are still huge this season and are being worn under dresses, skirts, and tunics. We have a ton of them in almost every color (we are pretty sure we over-bought here - oops.) We have also added Pink Chicken - a really cute girls line with a european flair (without too much hoopla.)

We also have a selection of First Holy Communion dresses and headpieces available. We have discounted some of last year's styles so there are some great deals. Come see us soon for the best selection.

My hope is to add to this blog a couple of times a month with highlights and tips and I may even add a few deals just for those of you adventurous enough to read:)
